MENULIS MAKALAH DAN LAPORAN

I. Pendahuluan

Banyak mata kuliah yang dipelajari pada berbagai universitas mensyaratkan Anda untuk menulis beberapa makalah dan laporan. Menulis makalah dan laporan mengajak Anda dalam menggunakan proses pencarian, integrasi dan pengorganisasian informasi dan ilmu pengetahuan yang relevan dengan mata kuliah yang dipelajari. Makalah dan laporan Anda merefleksikan bagaimana Anda melalui proses penulisan ini. Penulisan ini sering digunakan untuk menilai hasil pelaksanaan mata kuliah Anda. Untuk mendapatkan manfaat dari penulisan makalah atau laporan yang Anda buat dan mendapat nilai baik dari mata kuliah Anda, Anda seharusnya menguasai proses penulisan dan keterampilan yang mendukung produksi/pembuatan makalah dan laporan.

II. Pembahasan

A. Karakteristik Makalah Yang Baik

Suatu makalah tidak hanya menjelaskan dan mendiskusikan secara mendalam topiknya, tetapi juga menunjukkan usaha dan keterampilan yang Anda miliki dalam mengumpulkan, memilih dan mengorganisasikan informasi dan bahasa secara tepat dalam makalah. Jika makalah Anda baik, itu menunjukkan usaha dan pengetahuan Anda sudah cukup tinggi menurut standar akademik.

Syarat menulis makalah yang baik:

Ø Fokus pada topik (judul) yang telah Anda pilih

Ø Merefleksikan secara kritis dan luas bacaan artikel, buku dan material lainnya yang relevan.

Ø Menyajikan penjelasan yang masuk akal dan ilmiah.

Ø Menulis dengan gaya yang jelas.

Ø Menulis dengan bahasa yang benar dan tepat.

Ø Mencantumkan semua sumber informasi secara tepat.

B. Komponen Utama Makalah

Seperti kebanyakan format penulisan dokumen lain, makalah memiliki tiga komponen berbeda: bagian awal (pendahuluan), bagian tengah (isi makalah) dan bagian akhir (kesimpulan). Ada kalanya tiga komponen ini tidak secara eksplisit disebutkan, tetapi dapat diidentifikasikan melalui isi dan gaya penulisan.

1. Pendahuluan

Fungsi utama pendahuluan adalah untuk memberikan gambaran informasi dari makalah yang akan dibahas / didiskusikan.

Anda dapat menuliskan pendahuluan dalam satu atau beberapa paragraf. Pendahuluan berisi lima sampai lima belas persen dari total keseluruhan makalah.

Pendahuluan harus mencakup beberapa hal:

o Memberikan penjelasan awal topik

o Memberikan definisi istilah / kata kunci (keyword).

o Menerangkan topik diskusi secara signifikan.

o Bagaimana mengindentifikasikan topik diskusi.

o Memberi batasan pendapat yang akan didiskusikan.

o Tujuan / hasil yang diharapkan.

2. Batang Tubuh Makalah (Pokok Bahasan)

Batang tubuh makalah merupakan isi daripada makalah yang menjelaskan informasi detail dan pembentukkan pendapat tentang topik yang dibahas. Ketika membaca bagian ini, pembaca makalah akan dengan mudah menemukan informasi yang bermanfaat tentang pokok bahasan, dan meyakinkan bahwa sudut pandang yang anda berikan adalah benar. Batang tubuh makalah biasanya mengisi sebesar tujuh puluh sampai sembilan puluh persen (70% – 90%) dari total keseluruhan makalah tersebut.

Anda harus yakin bahwa batang tubuh / pokok bahasan makalah Anda:

o Menyajikan informasi dan alasan-alasan (pendapat) dalam metode / cara yang saling mendukung dan logic.

o Dukung pendapat / pokok bahasan Anda dengan literatur dan contoh-contoh.

3. Kesimpulan

Dalam kesimpulan, makalah Anda harus menggambarkan pendapat / alasan utama Anda, dan buat pula sudut pandang / pandangan Anda yang telah Anda ajukan secara tegas. Ini memberikan pengertian yang lengkap pada makalah Anda.

Kesimpulan Anda harus mencakup:

o Menyajikan kembali pendapat / alasan utama Anda atau mengingatkan pembaca akan bahasan Anda.

o Ringkasan pokok-pokok bahasan anda.

o Jawaban atas pertanyaan-pertanyaan atau memberikan ulasan / bahasan makalah.

Materi atau gagasan baru biasanya tidak diperkenalkan dalam kesimpulan. Itu akan mengalihkan perhatian pembaca dan membuat pembaca merasa anda tidak kompeten terhadap informasi yang didiskusikan.

Contoh Kesimpulan dari judul makalah ”Merancang Latihan, Tugas dan Alat Evaluasi” :

……… bahwa keberhasilan pengajaran dan pembelajaran salah satunya, tergantung pada keberhasilan guru merancang materi pengajaran termasuk merancang latihan, tugas dan alat evaluasi yang merupakan alat untuk mencapai sasaran belajar ………..

LATIHAN

Buatlah essay/makalah yang terdiri dari lima paragraph tentang anda mendapatkan bingkisan yang sangat berkesan. Bingkisan untuk memperingati peristiwa khusus atau diberikan tanpa alasan sama sekali. Jelaskan tentang bingkisan tersebut dan mengapa sangat berkesan. Berikan alasan-alasannya, deskripsi bingkisan, dan bagaimana perasaanmu ketika menerimanya.



C. Karakteristik Laporan Yang Baik

Suatu laporan normalnya adalah produk (hasil) akhir dari sebuah percobaan, kerja lapangan, proyek penelitian, atau riset/penyelidikan. Suatu laporan seharusnya memberikan perhitungan dan hasil kegiatan atau tugas-tugas yang terkait. Laporan Anda harus menunjukkan kepada pembaca, kompetensi (kemampuan) dan keahlian / keterampilan anda dalam melakukan kegiatan-kegiatan, dan mengorganisasian serta meringkasnya.

Gaya laporan antara yang satu dengan yang lainnya berbeda/bervariasi, oleh karena itu sangat penting bagi Anda untuk mempelajari permintaan tugas-tugas secara hati-hati (teliti) untuk mengerti secara pasti apa yang diperlukan.

Secara umum laporan yang baik harus mencakup:

o Memberikan laporan secara tepat dan jelas apa yang telah, hingga laporan tersebut selesai disusun.

o Merefleksikan keefektifan dan keefisiensian keterampilan yang Anda gunakan untuk menjadikan pekerjaan / tugas lengkap.

o Menyajikan informasi dalam urutan yang dapat diterima atau masuk akal (logis).

o Ditulis dengan gaya yang jelas.

o Ditulis dalam bahasa yang benar dan tepat.

o Mencantumkan semua sumber informasi (referensi) secara proporsional / sesuai dengan kebutuhan.

D. Komponen Utama Laporan

Seperti makalah dan kebanyakan dokumen tertulis, laporan harus dimulai dengan pendahuluan dan diakhiri dengan kesimpulan. Diantara pendahuluan dan kesimpulan, ada tiga seksi (3 bagian) yang dinamakan metode / cara-cara yang digunakan, hasil dan pembahasan (diskusi). Ketiga-tiga bagian (seksi) ini dapat meliputi sekitar tujuh puluh sampai sembilan puluh persen (70% – 90%) dari total keseluruhan laporan yang telah Anda susun.

Seluruh lima seksi/bagian (kelima-lima seksi/bagian) biasanya diberi nama, dan isinya serta coraknya menjadikan hal tersebut dengan mudah dapat dikenali. Walaupun Anda harus mengikuti petunjuk tugas secara teliti. Pedoman berikut tentang lima bagian tersebut mungkin sangat bermanfaat bagi Anda.

1. Pendahuluan.

Pada pendahuluan, Anda menjelaskan / menyampaikan latar belakang dan pengetahuan dasar (informasi) secara umum yang dengan itu berguna dan mudah bagi pembaca untuk membaca bagian pokok dari laporan Anda.

Secara umum, pendahuluan laporan harus mencakup:

o Menjelaskan latar belakang yang sesuai dari apa-apa yang anda paparkan;

o Menyatukan masalah-masalah / problem-problem dan pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang anda teliti dan lakukan; dan

o Memaparkan / menggambarkan pentingnya hal yang dilakukan.

2. Metode-metode.

Bagian ini, memberikan gambaran yang menyeluruh prosedur / urutan langkah-langkah yang telah Anda gunakan. Dalam hal ini, Anda harus:

o Memberikan secara rinci bahan/pokok-pokok bahasan, perlengkapan, dan atau peralatan yang anda gunakan, dan

o Memaparkan/menggambarkan masing-masing langkah yang diambil dalam Anda melakukan pekerjaan/tugas tersebut.

Jika Anda memiliki/menemukan beberapa perbedaan/kesulitan apapun selama melakukan kegiatan tersebut, berilah gambaran (gambarkan) dalam bagian ini.

3. Hasil

Dalam bagian hasil, Anda menyajikan/menjelaskan secara rinci temuan-temuan yang didapat dengan problem (masalah) dan persoalan yang harus dipelajari/teliti. Ketepatan dan kejelasan/kejujuran adalah faktor utama, walaupun nantinya didapatkan hasil yang tidak diharapkan, harus dilaporkan juga.


Melalui bagian ini, Anda perlu untuk:

o Memaparkan pengamatan dan hasil temuan anda secara masuk akal/dirinci sehingga dapat di mengerti, dan

o Menarik perhatian pembaca Anda, dengan menunjukkan sesuatu yang luar biasa dari tulisan Anda.

4. Pembahasan/Diskusi.

Dalam bagian pembahasan/diskusi, Anda mengkaitkan hal-hal pokok dari informasi yang anda sajikan dan upaya/berusaha memecahkan masalah-masalah atau jawaban atas pertanyaan-pertanyaan Anda.

Untuk mencapai ini, Anda harus:

· Menginterprestasikan/mengartikan hasil-hasil dalam kaitannya dengan pertanyaan-pertanyaan atau masalah-masalah / problem-problem yang dipelajari dan kesulitan-kesulitan yang dialami

· Tanggapan/pendapat atas kesesuaian dan keabsahan/kebenaran dari metode-metode yang digunakan terhadap hasil yang dicapai dan kesulitan-kesulitan yang ditemukan selama proses penulisan.

· Membahas bagaimana dapat diterapkan suatu persaman persepsi/pandangan dari berbagai sumber dapat diperoleh.

5. Kesimpulan.

Bagian kesimpulan dari laporan anda harus menyakinkan pembaca anda bahwa kegiatan yang dipaparkan dalam laporan telah lengkap sebagaimana mestinya dan anda mengetahui apa yang telah dicapai tugas yang dilaporkan dan apa langkah berikutnya yang harus dipilih.

Pada kesimpulan laporan, Anda boleh:

o Meringkas pengamatan dan temuan-temuan utama.

o Menyimpulkan prestasi yang telah dibuat dan perbedaan yang ditemui; dan

o Memberikan saran dan pendapat untuk penelitian lebih lanjut dalam kaitan/ berhubungan dengan pekerjaan Anda.
